Iga Swiatek Dominates in Rome After Madrid Setback

Iga Swiatek made a powerful statement at the Italian Open, defeating home favorite Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-1, 6-0 in a commanding second-round performance on Thursday. The Polish star rebounded impressively after her recent loss to American Coco Gauff in Madrid.

Swiatek, the World No.1 and three-time Rome champion, showcased her clay-court prowess, improving her remarkable record in the Italian capital. “I felt like the ball was really going where I wanted today,” Swiatek said after the match. “It’s always great to play with such confidence. I just want to keep this momentum going.”

The Italian Open serves as a crucial warm-up ahead of the French Open, which begins on May 28. Swiatek, who has won three of her four Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros, is aiming to defend her title in Paris. “Every match here is important preparation for me,” she added. “I’m focusing on playing my best tennis.”

Up next, Swiatek will face Danielle Collins of the United States in the third round.
