A recent survey of 2,257 small business owners in the United States reveals growing concerns over the impact of trade tariffs and the health of the economy. The study, conducted by a prominent American news outlet in late April, found that 66% of small business owners have already been affected by trade tariffs introduced by the administration of President Donald Trump or expect to be in the near future.
The survey highlights a pessimistic outlook among entrepreneurs, with only 30% describing the current US economy as excellent or good. A significant 70% consider it fair or poor, and an equal percentage believe the country is on track to enter a recession.
Trade policies appear to be a major source of unease. Half of the respondents anticipate that upcoming changes in trade policies will negatively affect their businesses over the next year. This uncertainty is compounded by dissatisfaction with presidential leadership, as 51% expressed disapproval of Trump’s performance.
The sentiment reflects the challenges small businesses face amid shifting economic policies and global trade tensions. With concerns over tariffs and a potential recession, many entrepreneurs are bracing for a difficult year ahead.
