Tensions between Pakistan and India have escalated as both countries expelled each other’s diplomats on Tuesday, accusing them of espionage activities.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad as persona non grata. The official has been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours. The Indian Charge d’Affaires was summoned, and a formal démarche was issued, urging the Indian mission to ensure its personnel adhere strictly to diplomatic responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Indian media reported that the Indian government expelled an official from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, also giving a 24-hour deadline to depart. India’s foreign ministry stated that the Pakistani diplomat was “indulging in activities not in keeping with his official status in India.”
This mutual expulsion marks a significant strain in the already delicate relations between the two neighboring nations. Observers are concerned that such actions could further destabilize the region if not addressed through diplomatic channels.
