Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to chair the third China-Pacific Island Countries (PICs) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Xiamen City, southeast China’s coastal city, on May 28 and 29. This marks the first time the meeting will be held in person in China.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced that the gathering will involve an in-depth exchange of views on interactions and cooperation between China and PICs across various sectors. The discussions aim to enhance collaboration on international and regional issues of mutual interest, strengthening ties and promoting shared development.
So far, China has established diplomatic relations with 11 Pacific Island countries. The total import and export volume between China and these nations reached $6.3 billion, according to China’s General Administration of Customs, highlighting the growing economic connections in the region.
This meeting represents a significant step in boosting all-round cooperation between China and the Pacific Island nations. With topics ranging from economic partnerships to regional challenges, the forum seeks to foster mutual understanding and build a stronger foundation for future collaboration.
