Remembering George Floyd: Three Years On
It’s been three years since George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, died at the hands of Derek Chauvin, a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd’s death on May 25, 2020, ignited a global movement against racial injustice and police brutality.
The footage of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes sparked outrage and protests across the United States and around the world. People took to the streets to demand justice and highlight systemic racism faced by Black communities.
For Floyd’s friends and family, these years have been a time of both grief and remembrance. They continue to honor his memory and advocate for meaningful change. “George’s death was a turning point,” said one family member. “We want to ensure his legacy leads to real reform.”
While some progress has been made, many believe there’s still a long way to go in the fight against racial inequality. The anniversary of Floyd’s death serves as a reminder of the work that remains and the importance of standing up against injustice.
