A South Korean navy patrol plane crashed in the hills near the southeastern city of Pohang on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The aircraft went down around 1:50 p.m. local time (0450 GMT), according to an official from the Pohang city government. Authorities confirmed that four people were on board when the plane crashed in the mountainous area along the east coast.
Emergency teams have been dispatched to the crash site to search for survivors and assess the situation. The cause of the crash is not yet known, and an investigation is expected to commence soon.
Pohang is a key coastal city and hosts one of South Korea’s major naval bases. The incident has raised concerns about military aviation safety in the region.
