UNMISS Commander Hails Chinese Peacekeepers as a ‘Fortunate Presence’

It’s not every day that the leader of a United Nations mission praises a contingent with such enthusiasm. Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), expressed his deep appreciation for the Chinese infantry battalion stationed in the region.

“It’s fortunate that the China infantry battalion is in the UNMISS mission,” Lt. General Subramanian remarked during an exclusive interview in South Sudan. His words come ahead of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on May 29, a time to honor the bravery and dedication of peacekeepers globally.

The commander highlighted the professionalism and commitment of the Chinese peacekeepers, acknowledging their significant contributions to maintaining peace and stability in South Sudan. “Their presence here has been instrumental in supporting our mission and protecting civilians,” he added.

The Chinese infantry battalion has been an integral part of UNMISS, participating in various operations aimed at fostering peace in the conflict-affected nation. Their efforts have not only enhanced security but also built strong relationships with local communities.

As the world prepares to celebrate the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, Lt. General Subramanian’s commendation shines a spotlight on the vital role that Chinese peacekeepers play in global peacekeeping efforts.
