Bridge Collapse and Train Derailment in Russia’s Bryansk Kills 7

At least seven people lost their lives and 30 others were hospitalized after a train derailed due to a bridge collapse in Russia’s Bryansk Region early Sunday, according to Russian authorities.

The tragic incident occurred when “illegal interference” led to the collapse of a road bridge, causing the train’s locomotive and several cars to derail. Russian Railways reported on Telegram that the derailment happened “due to the collapse of a span structure of the road bridge as a result of an illegal interference in the operation of transport.”

Among those hospitalized were two children, one of whom is in serious condition, stated Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk Region, on Telegram.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact nature of the illegal interference. Authorities are working to restore rail services and ensure the safety of the transportation network in the region.
