Chinese athletes dominated the final day of the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, clinching four gold medals to conclude the competition on a high note. The team wrapped up the event on Saturday with an impressive haul of 19 gold, nine silver, and four bronze medals.
Chen Yujie sprinted her way to victory in the women’s 200 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 22.97 seconds. In a nail-biting finish, Shanti Pereira of Singapore crossed the line just one-hundredth of a second later to claim silver, while China’s Li Yuting secured bronze with a time of 23.23 seconds.
The triumphant duo, along with teammates Zhu Junying and Liang Xiaojing, later teamed up to dominate the women’s 4×100 meter relay. The quartet blazed the track with a season-best time of 43.28 seconds, leaving India and Thailand to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.
In the women’s 400 meter hurdles, Mo Jiadie, the Hangzhou Asian Games silver medalist, staged a remarkable comeback. Trailing behind Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya for most of the race, Mo surged ahead in the final stretch to clinch gold in 55.31 seconds, edging out Adekoya by a mere one-hundredth of a second. India’s Vithya Ramraj took bronze with a time of 56.46 seconds.
Wu Hongjiao added to China’s gold tally by winning the women’s 800 meters. She completed the race in 2:00.08, outpacing Japan’s Rin Kubo, who took silver, and India’s Pooja Pooja, who earned bronze.
China’s outstanding performance solidified their position at the top of the medal table, showcasing the strength and depth of their athletics program as they look ahead to future international competitions.
