Tehran, Iran — Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that it is still waiting for the United States to clarify its position on lifting sanctions, as both nations work towards a potential nuclear deal.
“I regret to inform you that the American side has not yet been willing to clarify this issue,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei during a weekly press conference in Tehran. “It must be clear to us how the oppressive sanctions against the Iranian people will be lifted, to ensure that past experiences are not repeated.”
The ongoing negotiations aim to resolve long-standing disputes over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, who has been mediating between Iran and the U.S., recently visited Tehran. During his short visit on Saturday, he presented elements of a U.S. proposal for a nuclear agreement between the two countries.
Last month, Iranian and U.S. delegations concluded a fifth round of talks in Rome. While there were indications of limited progress, significant differences remain, particularly regarding Iran’s uranium enrichment activities.
The issue of sanctions relief is a critical point for Iran, which seeks assurance that the economic pressure will be lifted in a verifiable way. The U.S., on the other hand, is focused on ensuring that Iran’s nuclear program is strictly limited to peaceful purposes.
Despite the hurdles, both sides appear committed to continuing dialogue. Observers hope that sustained diplomatic efforts will lead to a mutually acceptable solution, easing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
