American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff has advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open, defeating Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 at Roland-Garros in Paris.
The 19-year-old, who recently claimed her first Grand Slam title at the US Open, delivered a dominant first set, breaking Alexandrova’s serve three times. Though Alexandrova fought back in the second set, Gauff remained composed, clinching the match in under 90 minutes.
“It’s great to be back in the quarterfinals here,” Gauff said. “I’m happy with my performance today and excited to keep pushing forward.”
Gauff’s victory underscores her exceptional form on clay this season. She reflects on her journey and the importance of resilience in her matches.
“I’ve learned a lot from previous tournaments,” she noted. “Every point counts, and I have to keep fighting because anything can happen on the court.”
Next, Gauff will face fellow American Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. Keys secured her spot by defeating Hailey Baptiste 6-3, 7-5. The upcoming match promises an exciting clash between two of America’s top talents.
“Madison is a fantastic player,” Gauff remarked. “It’s always thrilling to have an all-American matchup at this stage of a Grand Slam.”
