Exit polls from South Korea’s snap presidential election on Tuesday indicate a strong lead for Lee Jae-myung of the majority liberal Democratic Party. According to a joint exit poll by three major broadcasters, Lee secured 51.7% of the vote.
Trailing behind is Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party with 39.3%. Lee Jun-seok of the minor conservative New Reform Party garnered 7.7% support.
Separate projections from local broadcasters JTBC, Channel A, and MBN also suggest Lee is leading Kim by approximately 10 percentage points.
The election has captured the nation’s attention, with voters turning out in large numbers to decide their next leader amid pressing issues like economic recovery and regional security.
