China’s Zhang Shuai and El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo have secured their spot in the mixed doubles semifinals at the French Open after a commanding straight-sets victory. The second-seeded pair defeated Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool 6-3, 6-2 on Monday at Roland-Garros in Paris.
Zhang and Arevalo, who hadn’t dropped a set in the first two rounds, continued their impressive form. They took control early, capturing the first set 6-3 with consistent play and strong teamwork.
Arevalo, currently the World No. 1 in men’s doubles, showcased his powerful serve and solid baseline skills throughout the match. Zhang provided excellent defense at the net, making it difficult for their opponents to gain any momentum.
The duo broke serve to go up 5-2 in the second set, edging closer to victory. Arevalo sealed the match with a sharp volley, wrapping up the win in just 58 minutes.
The cross-continental partners will face the third-seeded Italian team of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the semifinals as they continue their quest for the title.
