California Says National Guard Deployment Violated States Sovereignty

California Challenges National Guard Deployment Over State Sovereignty

California has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government, claiming that the deployment of the National Guard by President Donald Trump’s administration is illegal and violates the state’s sovereignty and federal law.

On Monday, the state submitted a court filing stating that the federal government’s actions undermine California’s authority. The move comes after about 700 U.S. Marines were mobilized to respond to protests in Los Angeles, as confirmed by the U.S. Northern Command.

Governor Gavin Newsom expressed concern over the escalating military presence, noting that he was informed of an additional 2,000 National Guard troops being deployed to Los Angeles. “This overreach by the federal government is unprecedented and unacceptable,” Newsom said.

Tensions have been mounting since President Trump activated the National Guard on June 7. Democrats have labeled the action an unnecessary provocation following street protests that erupted in response to immigration raids in Southern California.

The deployment has sparked a debate over the balance of power between federal and state authorities, with many Californians worried about the implications for civil liberties and state governance.
