Kenya is celebrating three decades of strides in gender equality and women’s empowerment, marking the milestone alongside China at the High-level Dialogue on delivering the Beijing+30 Action Agenda.
Lynette Mwende Ndile, Deputy Ambassador of Kenya to China, emphasized the importance of this anniversary on Monday. “The Beijing Declaration has been a cornerstone in our pursuit of gender equality,” she said. “Thirty years on, Kenya has made significant progress in empowering women economically and socially.”
The Beijing+30 Action Agenda commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a critical framework established in 1995 to promote women’s rights globally. The agenda continues to guide efforts toward achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
Anne Wang’ombe, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage in Kenya, highlighted the fruitful cooperation between China and Kenya. “Our partnership with China has opened doors for many women to access job markets and opportunities,” she said. “This collaboration has been instrumental in advancing women’s economic empowerment in Kenya.”
The dialogue underscored the shared commitment of Kenya and China to promote gender equality and women’s rights. By working together, both nations aim to build on the progress of the past three decades and continue to empower women for years to come.
