Vietnam has officially joined BRICS as a partner country, the government of Brazil announced on Friday. This significant move was welcomed by Brazil, the current BRICS Chair, emphasizing shared ambitions to foster “a more inclusive and representative international order.”
With a population of nearly 100 million and a vibrant economy deeply integrated into global value chains, Vietnam emerges as a key player in Asia. “Vietnam stands out as a relevant actor in Asia,” the Brazilian government stated, highlighting the nation’s dynamic growth and international influence.
The addition of Vietnam to the BRICS partnership underscores a mutual commitment to promoting South-South cooperation and sustainable development. Vietnam’s alignment with BRICS’ goals signals a strengthening of ties among countries seeking a more equitable global landscape.
Vietnam becomes the tenth partner country of BRICS, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. The partner-country category was established at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan in October 2024, aiming to expand the group’s outreach and collaborative initiatives.
This development marks a significant step in enhancing cooperation among nations in the Global South, fostering opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and shared prosperity.
