Inter Milan Held to 1-1 Draw by Monterrey in Club World Cup Opener

Inter Milan kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup journey with a 1-1 draw against Mexico’s Monterrey at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. This match marked Inter’s return to the field after their narrow loss in the UEFA Champions League final.

The game sprang to life when veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos soared to head home a stunning goal for Monterrey in the first half, igniting the predominantly Mexican crowd. It was a dream start for Monterrey’s new coach, Domenec Torrent, making his debut on the sidelines.

Inter Milan responded just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez tapped in a well-placed pass from Carlos Augusto, concluding a brilliant sequence of play from a set piece. Martinez thought he had secured a second goal in the 68th minute, but it was ruled offside.

The second half saw both teams pushing for a winner, with near misses on both ends. Inter’s coach, Cristian Chivu, who took charge for the first time, made several changes to the lineup, introducing Marcus Thuram early in the second half to replace young forward Sebastiano Esposito.

Mamelodi Sundowns Edge Ulsan to Lead Group F

In another Group F encounter, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 1-0 victory over South Korea’s Ulsan in Orlando, Florida. Iqraam Rayners netted the decisive goal in the 36th minute, capitalizing on an attacking surge following a weather delay.

Despite Ulsan’s efforts to find an equalizer, including a close attempt by winger Matias Lacava, Mamelodi’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams kept a clean sheet. The win places Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the group with three points, showcasing their determination to advance in the tournament.
