Wang Xinyu Advances to Second Round at WTA Berlin Open

China’s Wang Xinyu secured a solid victory over Daria Kasatkina of Russia, winning 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Berlin Open on Tuesday.

Despite a challenging start, with Wang being broken in the opening game and trailing 1-3, the World No. 65 rallied impressively. She claimed five consecutive games to take the first set 6-3.

The 21-year-old continued her strong performance in the second set, breaking Kasatkina twice. Although Kasatkina earned two break points in the eighth game, Wang held firm to close out the match and secure her spot in the second round.

Wang will face American sensation Coco Gauff next, setting up an exciting matchup.

In other action, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina advanced after defeating Ashlyn Krueger of the USA 7-6, 6-3. Krueger entered the main draw as a lucky loser, replacing China’s Zheng Qinwen, who withdrew due to a neck injury.

Zheng hopes to recover in time for Wimbledon, which begins on July 3.
