The United States has issued a 60-day deadline for 36 countries to comply with new travel requirements, raising concerns about potential travel bans that could impact major global events. The move comes as the U.S. prepares to host the World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games.
While Olympic organizers have assured that athletes will still be allowed entry for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, some critics argue that enforcing such strict measures could be a harsh punishment. They worry that failure to meet these requirements within the deadline could lead to total travel bans, affecting not only athletes but also fans and officials traveling to the U.S. for international events.
“Implementing a total travel ban would be detrimental, especially at a time when global cooperation is essential,” said an international relations expert. “It could hinder the spirit of unity that events like the World Cup and the Olympics aim to promote.”
The U.S. government’s new requirements have not been fully disclosed, but they are believed to pertain to security and visa regulations. The 36 countries targeted have been given two months to adjust their policies accordingly.
As the deadline approaches, there is growing pressure on all parties to find a balanced solution that ensures security without compromising international collaboration.
