World Reacts to Us Attacks on Iran with Un Calling for De escalation

Global Reactions Erupt After U.S. Strikes Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

The world is on edge after the United States launched attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday, joining Israel’s bombing campaign following days of speculation over U.S. involvement in the escalating conflict.

“Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace,” U.S. President Donald Trump declared in a televised address from the White House after the strikes.

International Outcry and Condemnation

The global community responded swiftly, with reactions ranging from condemnation and calls for de-escalation to support for the U.S. actions.

Iran Denounces ‘Outrageous’ Attacks

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the U.S. strikes as “outrageous” and affirmed Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty.

“The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations,” Araghchi posted on X.

He warned that the events would have “everlasting consequences” and labeled the attacks as “lawless and criminal” behavior. “In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people,” Araghchi added.

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Responds

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization called the attacks “a barbaric act that violates international law.” In a statement published by state media, it assured the nation that it “will not let the path of development of this national industry, which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs, be stopped.”

Support from Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Trump’s decision, stating that the attacks will “help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace.”

“Your bold decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history,” Netanyahu said in a video message, adding that the strikes demonstrated that “America has been truly unsurpassed.”

Calls for De-escalation from the UN

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the strikes as a “dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge.”

“At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos,” Guterres said in a statement. “There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace.”

Global Leaders Urge Diplomacy

New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters expressed deep concern over the “extremely worrying” situation and urged for diplomatic efforts. “We acknowledge developments in the last 24 hours, including President Trump’s announcement of U.S. strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran,” Peters said. “We urge all parties to return to talks. Diplomacy will deliver a more enduring resolution than further military action.”

An Australian government spokesperson echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and dialogue. “The security situation in the region is highly volatile. We continue to call for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy,” the statement read.

Condemnations from Middle Eastern Groups

The Palestinian group Hamas condemned the “blatant U.S. aggression” against Iran, calling the attack “a flagrant violation of international law and a direct threat to international peace and security.”

A Houthi official, Mohamed al-Farah, stated that the U.S. strikes were the “beginning” of war, according to reports from Al Jazeera.

Voices from the Americas

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry urged for de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue. “In keeping with our constitutional principles of foreign policy and our country’s pacifist conviction, we reiterate our call to de-escalate tensions in the region,” it posted on X.

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil condemned the strikes on social media, labeling them as “military aggression” and demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel also denounced the actions, stating on X that the aggression “plunges humanity into a crisis with irreversible consequences.”

Concerns Within the United States

U.S. lawmakers expressed divided opinions. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries criticized President Trump for acting without congressional authorization, accusing him of pushing the nation toward war. “Donald Trump shoulders complete and total responsibility for any adverse consequences that flow from his unilateral military action,” Jeffries said.

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, representing California, called the strikes “not only unconstitutional but an escalation that risks bringing the U.S. into another endless and deadly war.”

A Region on the Brink

As tensions escalate, the international community watches with growing concern. Many leaders worldwide emphasize the urgency of returning to diplomatic talks to prevent further instability in the Middle East.
