Chinese Envoy at Iaea Slams Us Strike on Irans Nuclear Facilities

China Denounces U.S. Attack on Iran’s Nuclear Sites at IAEA Meeting

China’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has condemned the recent U.S. military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling it “egregious and unprecedented.”

At an emergency meeting convened by the IAEA on Monday, Li Song, China’s permanent representative to the agency, expressed strong opposition to the U.S. actions. He stated that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the United States has violated international norms by attacking a non-nuclear-weapon state’s facilities under IAEA safeguards.

“China strongly condemns such an act that is egregious and unprecedented in nature,” Li said. “The U.S. action has seriously violated the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, escalating tensions in the Middle East.”

Li emphasized the importance of negotiation and cooperation in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue. “Communication and dialogue are the correct path to achieve lasting peace,” he stressed.

He called on the international community, especially the United States, to make efforts to de-escalate the situation and promote dialogue and negotiation. Li also urged all parties involved in the conflict, particularly Israel, to cease fire immediately, ensure the safety of civilians, and prevent further escalation.

“China supports the IAEA in performing its duties impartially and playing an active role in the political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue,” Li added.
