PSG Beats Seattle Sounders 2-0 to Reach Club World Cup Round of 16

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their spot in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Monday. The European champions showcased their dominance by not allowing a single shot on goal throughout the match at Lumen Field, which buzzed with energy from 50,628 fans.

PSG opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Vitinha‘s shot, initially heading wide, deflected off teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and found the back of the net. The lead was doubled in the 66th minute when Seattle’s defense faltered, leaving Achraf Hakimi unmarked at the back post. Bradley Barcola delivered a precise pass, allowing Hakimi ample time to control and strike.

The Sounders celebrated the return of hometown hero Jordan Morris, who stepped onto the pitch for the first time since April to a massive ovation. Despite his presence, Seattle couldn’t overcome PSG’s prowess and were eliminated from the tournament.

In another Group B match, Atletico Madrid defeated Botafogo 1-0 with a late goal from Antoine Griezmann. However, Atletico’s earlier 4-0 loss to PSG proved costly, as they were eliminated on goal difference despite tying with PSG and Botafogo on points.

PSG will face Group A runner-up Inter Miami in the round of 16 on Sunday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The competition heats up as top clubs vie for the prestigious title.
