Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Beijing on Tuesday, marking a new chapter in China-Singapore cooperation.
Speaking on the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, President Xi emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and respect. He highlighted the successful joint ventures like the Suzhou Industrial Park, which have contributed significantly to both countries’ development and set benchmarks for regional cooperation.
“We should view and develop our bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective,” Xi said. He called for strengthening political mutual trust, supporting each other’s core interests, and deepening cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, green development, and artificial intelligence.
President Xi also encouraged increased people-to-people exchanges to foster closer cultural ties. He expressed China’s readiness to work with Singapore to promote peace, development, and win-win cooperation on the global stage.
Deputy Prime Minister Wong reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to the one-China policy and opposition to any form of “Taiwan independence.” He expressed enthusiasm for expanding trade and investment with China, exploring new areas of collaboration in technology and new energy, and enhancing cultural exchanges.
“Singapore is eager to seize the opportunities brought by China’s growth,” Wong said. “We aim to work closely on regional and multilateral platforms to uphold multilateralism and the international order.”
Both leaders agreed on the importance of collaboration in shaping a future that benefits not only their own countries but also contributes to global peace and prosperity.
