Macron Warns Iran Exit from Npt Would Be worst case Scenario

Macron Warns Iran Against Exiting Nuclear Treaty

French President Emmanuel Macron has cautioned Iran against leaving the global nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), emphasizing that such a move would be the “worst-case scenario.”

“The worst would be that the consequence of this is Iran’s exit from the Non-Proliferation Treaty and therefore, ultimately, a drift and a collective weakening,” Macron told journalists after an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday.

Macron highlighted the importance of the NPT in limiting the spread of nuclear weapons. He announced plans to engage in discussions with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council in the coming days to uphold the treaty.

The French President had already initiated talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, informing him of France’s recent communications with Tehran. “Our hope is that there will be a real convergence of views,” Macron said, expressing the aim to prevent any resumption of nuclear buildup by Iran.
