South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who assumed office on June 4, has announced the appointment of six ministers and two senior secretaries, according to the presidential office on Sunday.
Koo Yun-cheol, the former vice finance minister, has been selected to lead the Ministry of Economy and Finance and will also serve as deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
Lee Jin-sook, former president of Chungnam National University, has been appointed as education minister and will double as deputy prime minister for social affairs.
Jeong Seong-ho, a five-term lawmaker of the ruling liberal Democratic Party, has been nominated as justice minister. Yoon Ho-jung, also a five-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party, has been named as interior minister.
Kim Jung-kwan, president of the major plant builder Doosan Enerbility, has been nominated as industry minister. Jeong Eun-kyeong, the former commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has been appointed as minister of health and welfare.
Additionally, President Lee has appointed senior presidential secretaries for civil affairs and non-governmental organizations, as well as deputy chiefs of the National Intelligence Service.
These appointments mark the beginning of President Lee’s administration, setting the tone for his focus on economic revitalization, education reform, and social welfare.
