The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that the recent U.S. bombing of Iran’s key Fordow nuclear site has caused “serious and heavy damage” to the facility. In an interview broadcast on Tuesday, Araghchi stated, “No one exactly knows what has transpired in Fordow. That being said, what we know so far is that the facilities have been seriously and heavily damaged.”
The extent of the damage is still being assessed by the Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran. “They are currently undertaking evaluation and assessment, the report of which will be submitted to the government,” Araghchi added.
Meanwhile, intercepted Iranian communications suggest that officials may be downplaying the impact of the strikes. According to a report by The Washington Post, classified intelligence indicates that the damage to Iran’s nuclear program might be more significant than initially acknowledged.
U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the strikes have “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities. However, U.S. officials have noted that it will take time to fully assess the effects of the military action carried out last weekend.
This development marks a significant escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over regional stability and the future of Iran’s nuclear activities.
