China Opposes Any Tariff Deal That Comes at Its Expense

China Warns Against Trade Deals That Harm Its Interests

China has firmly stated its opposition to any country making trade deals at the expense of its interests. On Thursday, He Yongqian, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, addressed concerns about a recent trade agreement between the United States and Vietnam.

He Yongqian emphasized that China is closely monitoring developments related to the U.S.-Vietnam trade deal. She criticized the United States for imposing so-called “reciprocal tariffs” on its trade partners, describing it as a unilateral bullying tactic—a practice China has consistently opposed.

“China supports efforts by other countries to resolve trade differences with the U.S. through consultations on equal footing,” the spokesperson stated. “However, we firmly oppose any country reaching a deal at the expense of China’s interests.”

She issued a stern warning: “If such a situation arises, China will take resolute countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.”
