Three people were injured by apparent celebratory gunfire during Nashville’s Let Freedom Sing event, according to local authorities. The incidents occurred in separate areas of downtown Nashville during or shortly after the fireworks display ended.
The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that the injuries may have resulted from individuals firing guns into the air in celebration. A 60-year-old man sustained an injury to his foot, a 58-year-old woman felt a wound to her breast, and a 26-year-old woman was struck in the face, causing swelling and a mark on her nose and upper lip.
The victims were among the estimated 365,000 attendees celebrating Independence Day in Nashville. Police are investigating the sources of the gunfire and have issued a strong caution against the practice of celebratory shooting.
“Celebratory gunfire can be inherently dangerous when projectiles, even if fired into the air, fall toward the ground in populated areas,” the police stated. Authorities are urging the public to refrain from such activities to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors.
