State of Emergency Declared in New Jersey Amid Ongoing Flash Flooding

New Jersey Declares State of Emergency Amid Flash Flooding

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency after heavy rains caused significant flash flooding across the Northeast United States.

“I am declaring a State of Emergency given flash flooding and high levels of rainfall in parts of the state,” Governor Murphy announced on social media.

Earlier on Monday, the National Weather Service warned that showers and thunderstorms could bring rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour, with totals reaching up to 3 inches in the New York City area.

The heavy downpour led to widespread disruptions in transportation. New York City Transit reported flooding at multiple subway stations in Queens, resulting in severe delays and interruptions on the E, M, and R train lines.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid flooded areas, and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
