Team China has announced that badminton player Cui Hechen and women’s 3×3 basketball player Liu Bei will serve as the flag bearers for the Chinese delegation at the opening ceremony of the 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games. The event is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 27, 2025, in Rhine-Ruhr and Berlin, Germany.
Both Cui and Liu will be making their Universiade debuts. Cui, a student from Hunan Normal University, and Liu, from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, are eager to represent their country on the international stage.
“I’m really excited to be the flag bearer of the Chinese delegation because I know it might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Cui. “I’m so grateful to represent my country. I believe I will grow stronger through this experience and hope to connect with college students from around the world.”
Liu shared similar sentiments: “This is my first time competing at the World University Games, and I’m thrilled to be China’s flag bearer. Besides representing myself, I will represent my country and fellow college students. I aim to showcase the spirit of Chinese youth and win the gold medal for my country.”
The 2025 Universiade will feature Chinese athletes competing in 90 events across 14 sports. The selection of Cui and Liu as flag bearers highlights China’s dedication to fostering young talent and promoting university-level sports on a global platform.
