During my recent journey to Shanxi Province in China, I witnessed a remarkable harmony between humans and nature that left a deep impression on me. As a journalist from Burkina Faso working in China, this experience reinforced my belief that urgent climate action is no longer optional—it is essential for our survival. The picturesque landscapes of Wangmangling Mountain, rising to an altitude of 1,700 meters at the convergence of Henan, Shanxi, and Hebei provinces, showcase preserved ecosystems where humans and other organisms coexist in balance. This harmonious living environment serves as a powerful reminder of the interdependence between humanity and the natural world. The consequences of climate change are a stark warning. Protecting the environment is not just a choice but a necessity. We share this planet with countless plant and animal species, and our mutual survival depends on nurturing these complementary ecosystems. Caring for nature is the safest investment we can make in our future. French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said, “We do not inherit the earth from our parents; we borrow it from our children.” The responsibility we carry for the next generation weighs heavily on the choices we make today. My visit to Shanxi not only deepened my interest in climate issues but also gave me a greater appreciation for the attention that China pays to environmental protection. China’s efforts in ecological preservation offer valuable lessons that could benefit other countries around the world. Now, more than ever, we must commit to protecting the environment. The future of humanity depends on it.
