China’s artistic swimming team delivered a breathtaking performance to clinch gold in the team free routine at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Sunday.
The eight-member squad dazzled with their routine titled “Gravitation,” scoring an impressive 348.4779 points in the final. This marked an improvement over their preliminary score of 338.2167 points, showcasing their ability to elevate under pressure. They surpassed strong teams from Japan and Spain to reach the top of the podium.
“Our strategic approach under the new rules paid off,” said coach Zhang Xiaohuan. “Even after making two substitutions before the competition, our team’s resilience and the athletes’ excellence shone through.”
This triumph marks China’s second gold in artistic swimming at the championships, following Xu Huiyan’s historic victory in the women’s solo technical event on Saturday.
Japan earned the silver medal with 334.7232 points, while Spain took home bronze with 321.1328 points.
China’s continued success in artistic swimming highlights their rising prominence in the sport over the past decade, with athletes consistently achieving top honors in international competitions.
The artistic swimming events at the World Aquatics Championships run until July 25. China remains a strong contender for medals in the solo, duet, mixed duet, and team events.
