China Seeks Stronger Ties with Luxembourg to Boost China-EU Relations

China is aiming to strengthen its partnership with Luxembourg to promote sustainable and healthy development of China-EU relations, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on Monday.

Wang Yi hailed Luxembourg as an important partner of China, noting that the bilateral relations have achieved long-term and steady development since the establishment of diplomatic ties over 50 years ago.

“China values Luxembourg’s positive and practical policy toward China and is ready to work together to consolidate mutual political trust, enhance cooperation in green development, increase people-to-people exchanges, and push for further progress in our bilateral relations,” Wang Yi said.

With next year marking the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations, Wang Yi emphasized that China and the EU are partners, not rivals, and expressed hope that the EU will uphold its strategic autonomy.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s firm adherence to the one-China policy and expressed eagerness for closer cooperation with China. As a founding member of the EU, Luxembourg is willing to enhance mutual trust and promote a stronger EU-China partnership, he added.

Bettel also stated that China is a major country worthy of trust and voiced hope that China will play a bigger role in promoting world peace and stability.
