Chinese Premier Li Qiang Leads Efforts Against Floods and Droughts

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday chaired a State Council executive meeting to address the nation’s flood and drought prevention strategies as the country enters a critical period for flood control.

The meeting emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding people’s lives and properties. Premier Li called for strengthened coordination among all relevant departments to effectively navigate the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions.

“Ensuring the safety of our citizens is our top priority,” the premier stated. He urged for enhanced monitoring and early warning systems to better manage risks in key areas, crucial projects, and vulnerable points across the nation.

In regions affected by drought, the meeting highlighted the necessity of securing adequate irrigation for crops and ensuring reliable drinking water supplies for residents. The officials stressed the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impacts of prolonged dry spells on agriculture and daily life.

The executive meeting also reviewed and approved interim measures for investigating and evaluating natural disasters. “Improving our disaster prevention, reduction, and relief capabilities is essential,” the meeting concluded, underlining the need for comprehensive strategies to handle natural calamities.

Another significant agenda was the announcement of steps to gradually implement free pre-school education. The meeting urged local governments to develop specific plans and allocate subsidies to support this initiative. “Providing free pre-school education is a vital step towards benefiting the public and promoting social equality,” officials noted.

For children from economically disadvantaged families, orphans, and those with physical challenges, the meeting called for aligned support measures to ensure their daily needs are met. Additionally, there was an emphasis on accelerating the construction of educational infrastructure, improving wages for kindergarten teachers, and safeguarding the well-being of young children.
