AC Milan Stuns Real Madrid; Sporting Overwhelms Man City in Champions League Upsets

AC Milan delivered a stunning 3-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, shaking up the Champions League landscape. Malick Thiaw opened the scoring for Milan with a header from a corner in the 12th minute. Although Vinicius Jr equalized for Real Madrid with a penalty 11 minutes later, Milan regained control.

Alvaro Morata put Milan ahead again by netting a rebound in the 39th minute. Tijjani Reijnders sealed the win with a goal from a Rafael Leao cross after a swift counter-attack. The victory leaves Real Madrid languishing in 17th place in the 36-team Champions League table, just ahead of Milan on goal difference after four games.

This defeat marks Real Madrid’s first back-to-back losses in all competitions in over three years, highlighting a challenging period for the team that recently celebrated a LaLiga and Champions League double.

In another surprising result, Sporting CP overwhelmed Manchester City with a 4-1 triumph. Despite Phil Foden giving City an early lead, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres equalized before halftime. Maximiliano Araujo scored immediately after the break, and Gyokeres added two more goals, completing his hat-trick with a pair of penalties.

This match was the final home game for Sporting’s coach Ruben Amorim before he takes over as Manchester United’s manager on November 11. Sporting tops their group with 10 points from four games, while Manchester City suffered their first defeat, sitting on seven points.
