China’s Under-19 football squad opened the 2024 Panda Cup International Youth Football Tournament with a commanding 6-0 victory over Mongolia in Chengdu on Wednesday.
The hosts wasted no time making their mark, as Tang Tianyi netted the first goal just five minutes into the match. The early lead set the tone for a dominant performance by the Chinese team.
Before halftime, China extended their advantage with goals from Zhu Pengyu and Bai Yutao, bringing the score to 3-0. Zhu struck again to make it 4-0, solidifying China’s control over the game.
In the second half, the momentum continued. In the 55th minute, Tang provided an assist to Du Yuezheng, who scored the fifth goal for China. As the match neared its conclusion, Wu Yongqiang headed in a rebound from a saved free-kick, sealing the 6-0 triumph just minutes before stoppage time.
China’s emphatic win sets the stage for their upcoming match against Australia on Saturday. The 2024 Panda Cup features four teams—China, Mongolia, Australia, and Kyrgyzstan—as they prepare for the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup next year.
