China’s gaming industry has reached a new milestone as “Black Myth: Wukong” becomes the first Chinese game nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards (TGA) 2024. This groundbreaking action-adventure game has captivated players worldwide with its stunning visuals and immersive gameplay.
“Black Myth: Wukong” joins a prestigious list of six finalists for the top honor, including “Shadow of the Erdtree”, the downloadable content (DLC) for last year’s Game of the Year winner, “Elden Ring”. Notably, this is the first time a DLC has been nominated for TGA’s Game of the Year.
In addition to its Game of the Year nomination, “Black Myth: Wukong” has been recognized in three other categories: Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Action Game.
Released on August 20, the game achieved remarkable commercial success, generating $53 million in pre-sales and selling 4.5 million copies within the first 24 hours of its worldwide launch. Inspired by the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”, the game follows the legendary Monkey King, Sun Wukong, on his epic quest.
Developed over six and a half years, “Black Myth: Wukong” represents a significant achievement for China’s gaming industry on the global stage. The development team expressed their gratitude on social media platform Weibo, stating: “No matter how high the mountain is, there is always a path for travelers; no matter how deep the water is, there is always a ferryman to help cross.”
Established in 2014, The Game Awards is one of the most anticipated events in the gaming industry. The winners will be announced on December 12 in Los Angeles, with public voting starting this Tuesday.
