Zhuang Folk Song Music Kit Now Available in Counter strike

Counter-Strike Adds Zhuang Folk Song ‘Ay Hey’ Music Kit, Showcasing Chinese Cultural Heritage

Counter-Strike players worldwide can now groove to the sounds of Zhuang folk music with the launch of the “Ay Hey” music kit on November 28, 2024. This marks the first time a Chinese ethnic minority language song has been featured in the iconic tactical first-person shooter game.

Fusing traditional Zhuang folk songs, an intangible cultural heritage of China, with modern electronic beats, “Ay Hey” brings a fresh and energetic vibe to the game. The unique blend aims to resonate with players across different ages and regions, adding a new dimension to the gaming experience.

The title “Ay Hey” comes from a joyful interjection in the song, commonly used by players to express excitement or pride during gameplay. The music kit features contributions from renowned Zhuang artists like Lu Shunhong and Yu Xianzhuan, along with teachers from Guangxi Arts University.

Incorporating both male and female vocal elements recognized as intangible cultural heritage since 2008, the song also highlights the Bolie—a traditional Zhuang instrument resembling a suona but with a softer, sweeter tone. These authentic elements give “Ay Hey” a distinct Zhuang musical flavor.

This is the second Chinese music kit to be added to Counter-Strike. The first, “Hua Lian (Painted Face),” released in 2022, combined Shaanxi Qinqiang Opera with rock music, capturing global attention.

The inclusion of “Ay Hey” in Counter-Strike not only enriches the game’s auditory experience but also showcases China’s diverse cultural heritage to a global audience. It’s a celebration of tradition meeting modernity in the digital age.
