Devastating Floods in Nepal Leave Over 200 Dead

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Continuous heavy rainfall since the evening of September 26 has unleashed devastating floods and landslides across Nepal, breaching rivers and wreaking havoc in numerous regions.

According to the Nepalese police, at least 217 people have lost their lives, 28 are missing, and 143 others have been injured in the calamity. Homes have been destroyed, and entire communities displaced as the rising waters swept away belongings and livelihoods.

“The rain just didn’t stop,” said a resident whose home was engulfed by the floods. “The water levels rose so quickly, we barely had time to escape. We’ve lost everything.”

Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to reach affected areas, despite challenging conditions and continued rainfall. A local stringer on the scene witnessed the harrowing efforts to save lives and provide relief to those stranded.

Landslides triggered by the incessant rain have further complicated rescue operations, blocking roads and isolating villages. Authorities are urging residents in high-risk areas to evacuate to safer locations as the threat of additional landslides looms.

Humanitarian organizations and neighboring countries are mobilizing support, sending aid and resources to assist in the relief efforts. As Nepal grapples with this natural disaster, the resilience and solidarity of its people shine through amid the tragedy.
