China and Africa Unite for Green Development: New Report Launched in Nigeria

A groundbreaking report on China-Africa green development collaboration was unveiled on Thursday at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) event in Abuja, Nigeria. The report, titled “Green Development in Africa and China-Africa Green Development Collaboration (2024),” highlights the shared commitment between China and African nations to promote sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Developed by the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Research Institute (CAETI) and researchers from Hunan University in Changsha, China, the report introduces the Africa Green Development Index. This index encompasses five key indicators: ecological foundation, resource utilization, environmental governance, green assurance, and inclusive development. It serves as a valuable reference for enhancing green development cooperation between Chinese and African partners.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, praised the deepening ties between the two nations. “This exhibition underscores our shared commitment to advancing industrialization, agricultural modernization, and sustainable development in Nigeria,” he stated.

The report also highlights significant collaborative projects, such as the “Great Green Wall of Africa” initiative. This ambitious project aims to halt the spread of the Sahara Desert and bring ecological, economic, and social benefits to millions of people across the region.

The publication reflects the consensus reached at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing this September. It emphasizes the importance of eco-friendly modernization and aims to elevate China-Africa green cooperation to new heights.

Over 350 guests, including government officials, business leaders, representatives of financial institutions, scholars, and media personnel from China, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, and other countries attended the event, marking a significant step forward in international environmental collaboration.
