In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the BWF China Masters in Shenzhen, China’s top seed Shi Yuqi delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn on Friday. Shi’s victory served as redemption after Vitidsarn had previously eliminated him during the quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
The atmosphere was electric as Shi took to the court in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. He secured the first game 21-18, clinching the final point when Vitidsarn’s shot clipped the net. Riding the momentum, Shi dominated the second game, surging to an impressive 11-2 lead. Maintaining his focus, he sealed the match by winning the last five points, finishing with a commanding 21-8 scoreline.
After the win, Shi celebrated by cupping his ears to the crowd, embracing the cheers from his supporters.
“I knew I had to play differently this time,” Shi said. “Adjusting my style to match my opponent’s strengths was key. If I had followed his rhythm, it would have given him the advantage, so I focused on being patient and waiting for the right moments to seize control of the match.”
With this victory, Shi advances to the semifinals, keeping his hopes alive for the championship title at home.
