China to Train 1,300 Foreigners in Traditional Chinese Medicine

China has announced plans to train 1,300 foreigners in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) over the next three years. The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NATCM) unveiled the program at the closing ceremony of the 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine in Beijing on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to promote international exchanges and enhance the expertise of professionals interested in TCM. Developed over thousands of years, TCM is known for its holistic approach, focusing on harmony, individuality, preventive treatment, and simplicity.

According to the NATCM, the training program is designed for practitioners and managers of traditional medicine, as well as Western medical professionals keen to study TCM.

During the two-day conference, participants released a declaration emphasizing the vital role of traditional medicine in achieving universal health coverage. They highlighted the importance of political commitment and policy support to safely and efficiently integrate traditional medicine into existing health systems.

Attendees agreed to spread the concepts, knowledge, and practices of traditional medicine globally. They also committed to supporting international research in the field and fostering the integration of traditional and modern medicines.

The conference proposed establishing a global federation for traditional medicine groups to strengthen international partnerships. Jointly organized by China and the World Health Organization, the event attracted over 3,000 attendees, including government officials, representatives of international organizations, experts, and scholars. The gathering featured 129 speeches and reports, along with 13 exchange and dialogue sessions.
