China Dominates Romania to Reach ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Final

Chengdu, China—China’s table tennis team continued its dominant run at the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup, defeating Romania 8-1 in the semifinals on Sunday morning. The victory at Sichuan Province marked their tenth consecutive win, maintaining a perfect record in the tournament.

The match kicked off with the mixed doubles pairing of world No.1 Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha edging out Romania’s Ovidiu Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs 2-1. Their synergy on the table set the tone for China’s commanding performance.

In the women’s singles, Wang Manyu showcased her exceptional skills with a straight-game victory over Adina Diaconu, boosting China’s lead to 5-1. Rising star Lin Shidong, 19, sealed the deal in the men’s singles by defeating Eduard Ionescu in straight games, propelling China into the final set for Sunday evening.

Just a day prior, China swept Romania 8-0 to conclude their second-phase campaign. The mixed doubles duo of Lin Shidong and Kuai Man dominated Andrei Istrate and Diaconu in three straight games. World No.2 Wang Manyu faced a tough first game against Andreea Dragoman but emerged victorious with a 15-13 win before taking the next two games decisively. In men’s singles, world No.5 Liang Jingkun overpowered Darius Movileanu 2-0, contributing to China’s flawless performance.

China’s relentless pursuit of excellence has thrilled fans and solidified their status as a table tennis powerhouse. All eyes are now on the upcoming final, where China aims to cap off their impressive run with the championship title.
