Beijing, China — In a pivotal meeting on Monday, China’s top leaders laid out an ambitious plan for the nation’s economy in 2025 and reinforced their commitment to combating corruption. President Xi Jinping led the session of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, focusing on proactive policies to boost growth and ensure stability.
The year 2024 marks a crucial point in China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), with significant progress already made. The leaders emphasized that the country’s economic strength and technological capabilities have continued to improve, setting a strong foundation for the coming year.
Proactive Economic Policies
The meeting underscored the need for more proactive and impactful macroeconomic policies. Plans include implementing a more active fiscal policy and a moderately loose monetary policy to stimulate growth. Leaders called for an enriched policy toolkit to strengthen unconventional counter-cyclical adjustments, aiming for forward-looking and effective macro regulation.
Boosting consumption, enhancing investment efficiency, and expanding domestic demand were highlighted as key strategies. The focus is on fostering new productive forces driven by scientific and technological innovation and developing a modernized industrial system.
Opening Up and Risk Management
China plans to expand high-standard opening up, stabilize foreign trade and investment, and effectively prevent risks in key sectors. Ensuring no systemic risks arise is a top priority, alongside promoting integrated urban and rural development and advancing major regional development strategies.
Leaders also stressed the importance of accelerating the green transition across all fields of economic and social development, as well as increasing efforts to safeguard and improve people’s livelihoods.
Commitment to Anti-Corruption
The meeting reaffirmed the CPC’s commitment to improving Party conduct and fighting corruption. Disciplinary inspection and supervision bodies were urged to maintain a tough stance against corruption, with continued efforts to tackle misconduct that directly affects people’s lives.
The fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) is scheduled to be held from January 6 to 8, 2025, signaling a sustained focus on these critical issues.
