Xi Jinping Calls for Modern Governance and Growth in China’s Border Areas

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for enhanced governance and high-quality development in China’s border regions. Speaking at a group study session of the Communist Party’s Political Bureau on Monday, Xi emphasized that modernizing governance in these areas is a vital part of the country’s overall modernization efforts.

“No border area shall be left behind in advancing Chinese modernization,” Xi declared, highlighting the need to integrate governance in border regions with national development goals.

He urged these regions to leverage their unique advantages, encouraging them to boost development through reform and opening up. By utilizing their strategic coastal and frontier locations, border areas can become leaders in embracing new opportunities.

Xi also stressed the importance of integrated urban-rural development and improving the well-being of people living in border areas, particularly in regions with large ethnic minority populations. Promoting standard spoken and written Chinese and using unified, state-compiled textbooks were highlighted as essential steps.

Emphasizing national security and social stability, Xi called for efforts to enhance the effectiveness of social governance in border regions. He advocated for accelerating the development of an independent Chinese knowledge system for border studies and deepening research on key issues related to governance in these areas.
