PLA Garrison in Macao Pledges Continued Support for Prosperity and Stability

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) garrison in Macao has reaffirmed its commitment to the region’s prosperity and stability. Speaking on Friday, Wu Qian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, highlighted the garrison’s achievements over the past 25 years and its dedication to the local community.

Since its deployment in 1999, following Macao’s return to China from Portuguese rule, the PLA garrison has played a pivotal role in safeguarding national sovereignty and security. “Looking ahead, the PLA Macao Garrison will ensure its continued competence to maintain the trust of local residents,” Wu stated.

The garrison has not only focused on defense but also on building strong ties with the people of Macao. Each year, it opens its military camps to the public during the May Day holidays and hosts receptions on the PLA’s founding anniversary. These initiatives aim to foster goodwill and transparency with residents.

Beyond military duties, the garrison actively engages in community service. Over 1,000 officers and soldiers have participated in disaster relief efforts, and the garrison has provided flag-raising training to more than 13,000 individuals. Its military museum has welcomed over 157,000 visitors, serving as a bridge between the military and civilians.

Wu emphasized the garrison’s adherence to the law and strict discipline. “It has strictly abided by regulations and discipline, earning a reputation as a strong and disciplined force in the hearts of the local people,” he said.

As the PLA Macao Garrison looks to the future, it remains steadfast in enhancing its combat readiness through rigorous training and joint exercises. These efforts are designed to bolster the forces’ ability to respond promptly to potential threats, ensuring the continued peace and prosperity of Macao.
