Hangzhou, China — Chinese badminton players showcased remarkable resilience and skill at the BWF World Tour Finals, thrilling fans with stunning comebacks and dominant performances.

Shi Yuqi’s Dramatic Comeback

China’s Shi Yuqi moved a step closer to the semifinals after securing his second win of the tournament. Facing Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Shi had a sluggish start, dropping the first game 14-21. Undeterred, he fought back to take the second game 21-19.

The third set saw Shi trailing 6-14, but he remained composed, closing the gap point by point. As Vitidsarn sent a return wide, Shi narrowed the difference to just two points. Seizing the momentum, he clinched the match with a powerful smash, winning the final set 22-20.

Li Shifeng’s First Victory

Li Shifeng, fresh off his gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, earned his first group win in a grueling 73-minute match against Chou Tien-Chen of Chinese Taipei. After losing the first set 18-21, Li rallied to win the next two sets 21-14 and 21-13. His perseverance keeps him in contention for a semifinal spot.

Women’s Singles Success

In women’s singles, China’s Han Yue defeated Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18. Wang Zhiyi also triumphed, edging out Japan’s Aya Ohori 21-17, 13-21, 21-19 in a tightly contested match.

Dominance in Doubles

The women’s doubles saw Olympic champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan overpower South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee with a 2-0 victory. The Chinese duo maintained a slight lead throughout the first set, sealing it 21-16. They dominated the second set, creating a 10-point gap and winning 21-16 after Lee’s shot went wide.

Mixed Doubles Comeback

In mixed doubles, Olympic champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong overcame a shaky start to defeat Hong Kong SAR’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 2-1. After losing the first set 14-21, the pair bounced back with a 21-13 win in the second. The final set was neck and neck until Zheng and Huang secured a 21-18 victory, marking their first win in Hangzhou.
