On Thursday afternoon, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Ho Hau Wah and Chui Sai On, the two former Chief Executives of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The meeting underscored the central government’s continued support for Macao’s development and its leaders. Ho Hau Wah, who served as the first Chief Executive of Macao SAR, is currently the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

During the talks, President Xi praised the contributions of both former leaders to Macao’s prosperity and stability. He emphasized the importance of upholding the “One Country, Two Systems” policy and encouraged ongoing efforts to integrate Macao’s development with national growth strategies.

Macao, a former Portuguese colony, returned to Chinese sovereignty in 1999 under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, which grants it a high degree of autonomy.

The meeting signifies the strong ties between the central government and Macao SAR, highlighting collaborative efforts to advance economic development and social harmony in the region.
