Vanuatu Struck by Devastating 7.3 Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful magnitude-7.3 earthquake shook the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu on Tuesday, causing widespread damage and claiming at least 14 lives. Over 200 injured people have been admitted to the central hospital in the capital city of Port Vila.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the earthquake struck 30 kilometers west of Port Vila at a depth of 57 kilometers.

Among those killed were two Chinese nationals, as confirmed by Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang on Wednesday.

Rescue teams are working tirelessly to assist those affected, and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert due to potential aftershocks.
