On Friday, President Xi Jinping visited the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) garrison in Macao, emphasizing the importance of strengthening defense capabilities and military discipline. His visit followed a celebration marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China.
During the inspection, Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, reviewed the troops and met with military personnel. He encouraged them to enhance defense capabilities in all aspects and contribute to the “One Country, Two Systems” framework with Macao characteristics.
Xi highlighted the significant role the garrison has played over the past 25 years in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as maintaining Macao’s prosperity and stability. He stressed the need to unwaveringly uphold the Party’s absolute leadership over the military, strengthen military discipline, and maintain high levels of unity and security within the armed forces.
Senior officials, including Cai Qi, attended the activities.
